2011 - 2012 Lighting Masterclasses Announced

This series brings speakers from Philips, Thorn, Tridonic, Trilux and Wila and together with a guest paper from an IALD speaker, they make an exciting mix. The theme for the Masterclasses is refurbishment, picking up on the need for the lighting community to address those buildings already in the ground which are oozing energy, particularly through poor quality lighting.

SLL estimates that two thirds of the existing commercial building stock needs to be refurbished by 2050 if the UK is to hit its CRC commitment and that translates to 18 million buildings – one building a minute. This embraces all building types including retail and the Masterclass is aimed to highlight the problem, address the issues and provide solutions which can be transposed across each sector and size of application.

The technical aspects will be addressed alongside issues such as the human impacts on wellbeing and the influence of design in reaching energy goals.
