Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
The Society of Light and Lighting encourages all its members to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as a way of ensuring that they remain competent.
Many Society members fall within the scope of the CIBSE scheme. However, those in the CIBSE Affiliate, Graduate and Companion grades do not. For those members who are not within the scope of the CIBSE scheme and are not retired, and especially for those who are Associate Members, Members or Fellows of the Society, a scheme has now been devised which follows as closely as possible the CIBSE scheme. The following table indicates which scheme, if any, applies to you.
| Society of Light and Lighting class of membership | CIBSE Grade of Membership | |
|
Affiliate (Student), Graduate, Companion |
Licentiate, Associate, Member, Fellow | |
| Associate (Student) | None | CIBSE |
| Associate Member | Society | CIBSE |
| Member | Society | CIBSE |
| Fellow | Society | CIBSE |
| Hon Fellow | n/a | n/a |
You can download details of the scheme here and also a copy of a Planning and Evaluation Record for your personal use. The Society will begin monitoring its members’ CPD activity by asking a random sample of members to submit their CPD Planning and Evaluation Records. However, all Society members of whatever membership class are strongly advised to undertake CPD whether formally required to or not.
