SLL urges people to “Go Beyond the Hour”
On Saturday 26 March 2011 at 8.30pm, lights were switched off around the globe for the annual symbolic ‘Earth Hour’.
Now in its fifth year, the campaign is now urging individuals and companies to “go beyond the hour” and make a firm commitment to action.
‘Beyond the Hour’ will be an online platform that allows businesses, governments and individuals all over the world to commit to an ongoing environmental action and share it to inspire others.
The Society of Light & Lighting is fully supportive of this campaign and urges everyone to get involved. The Society is a natural leader for the lighting industry and takes its role with government very seriously, driving energy efficiency to the top of the collective agenda.
However, everyone can play their part with Beyond the Hour – with lighting it could be as simple as switching lights off when leaving a room or when there is sufficient daylight, through to encouraging employers to review their workplace lighting.
The symbolism of Earth Hour highlights that lighting is the most visible item in our energy toolbox, at home and at work and we have every reason to play our part.
